KS1 & Early Years
The Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage One
If your child is in Reception or Key Stage One they will placed in either class 1 or class 2. Both of the classes are located in the Rainbow Building which is where all of the Primary aged children are taught.
Your child will spend the majority of their time in this building and they will have access to their own playground throughout the school day.
Both classes have interactive whiteboards in the classrooms and classes have access to Ipads and Laptops. The children in Key Stage 1 and 2 are able to use the Sensory Rooms in the Rainbow Building.
The children are grouped into mixed aged classes according to individual needs and the classes follow a EYFS approach to learning.
Throughout the school day children will work on focussed activities which are adult led and be given opportunities for child initiated learning. Developing the children’s social skills are paramount to everything we do during the school day.
The children have the opportunity to work with the Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist if needed.
The children will experience extra curricular activities for example, your child will visit a soft play area help develop gross motor skills, social skills and to help promote healthy an active lifestyle as well as local parks.
Throughout the year parents/carers will be invited into school for parent afternoons to take part in a range of activities with your child. We like to build positive working relationships with our parents/carers. We encourage you to communicate in the Home/School diary and if you need to ring to speak to a member of the team we are always available. We would prefer non-urgent phone calls to be made before school starts or after school finishes.
We endeavour to make your child’s time at Saint John Vianney a happy and enjoyable experience.
