Each day we have a 25 minute period, after lunch, that is devoted to Literacy development; please see our Literacy Strategy below for the wonderful range of activities that we do. Our literacy themes are linked closely with the social, moral, religious and cultural aspects of life at St John Vianney School, including reading newspapers, discussing scripture and sharing new and well-loved tales as whole class groups.
We actively embrace opportunities to foster a love of reading in school and participate regularly in national events such as World Book Day and Readathon. We also arrange opportunities for visiting poets and authors to attend School, such as Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Mike Garry to further enthuse our learners in improving literacy. One of our latest additions to the TA workforce, Mr Lomax is a renowned poet and undertakes poetry interventions for us across the school.
Keep an eye out for up and coming literacy-based events throughout the school year, including additional author visits, sponsored reads and book swaps.
